Judge Conover

Today was my first day interning at the Flint Journal. The pictures are of Judge Conover in Michigan's 67th District Court. He is leaving his position as justice of the peace because the state decided in the early 20th century that judges can't be older than 70 to run for reelection.

Sand Point

The thermometer only reads -9 degrees Fahrenheit, but its windy. Every thing, living or not, protests the cold. Lake Superior is filled with plates of ice that crack against each other with the ebb of the water. Small plants are curled in ice and trees groan in an effort to remain upright. My dad says the wind feels like pins and needles or a freezing hand palming his unhatted head.
