Amy Headdress

Amy Headdress founded the Fort Peck Rez Online Yardsale Facebook group to create a community on the reservation where people could easily buy, sell, and trade goods and services amongst each other.

The Fort Peck Reservation was late to the high speed Internet boom, but since it has hit, many people on the reservation are on the web very often, and most people are at least aware of Headdress' group.

Headdress stands with a headdress she made for her youngest son.  The headdress was stolen over a year ago, but was recently recovered when someone tried selling it on the Facebook group.

O'Ryan

Britney Deavila, 19, holds her 2 month old baby O'Ryan in her apartment.  Deavila is waiting to buy a high chair from the Fort Peck Rez Online Yard Sale Facebook group for $40. The chair is too big for O'Ryan now, but Deavila says he will soon grow into it.
Autumn Kincaid, right, takes the $40 from Deavila. The high chair is pictured below Deavila.

Shoe Shopping

Azarian Bear, 12, of Wolf Point, Mont., tries on shoes at Bryan's. Employees at the only large clothing store on the Fort Peck Reservation say that their biggest sellers are shoes and children's toys. Otherwise, the store's relatively high prices discourage many people on the reservation.

Chairman Floyd Azure

Fort Peck Tribes chairman Floyd Azure stands in his shop, where he ran his auto body business before being elected to his new role on the reservation.

Azure keeps a cork board with the various automotive projects he's had over the years.

Azure lives in Poplar, Mont. among the most dangerous places in Montana, if not the United States.  His shop has been broken into before, but he says that if things get stolen, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Grocery girl

A girl stands with her family's groceries on the checkout conveyor at Tande Grocery in Poplar, Mont.

The Brothers Gray Hawk

Tote Gray Hawk's 'mechanic hands'.
Lenny Gray Hawk, left, and his brothers Brad and Tote have been working on cars their whole lives, a skill taught by their father.  Now they work on cars to make extra money and provide their community the service of cheap mechanical work.

Tote's hands wiggle through cables and engine components, trying to reattach the steering rod.

The brothers say that licensed mechanics are too expensive of the Fort Peck Reservation. If they were to become licensed, they would also be forced to charge more to cover the cost of employees, certification, and new parts.

Lenny, left, says his lack of higher education prevents him from becoming a certified mechanic.  Brad used to mechanic for the Cenex station in Poplar, Mont., but stopped.

Tote looks under the transmission of his sister's minivan, as Brad and Lenny check the engine compartment. Under the table mechanics often work on cars of family members, friends, or friends of friends.

Brad pulls a socket wrench from Lenny's meager hand-me-down tool box. The brothers are using a garage at Tote's employers, Fort Peck Transportation, but usually have do work wherever the car stopped running.

Poplar Theatre

Kenneth Smoker, left, and Dale Dakota work on renovated the movie theatre in Poplar, Mont.  The movie theatre was founded in 1904, but hasn't been in operation for 20 years.

Dakota stands in a work light in the theatre.  The plan is to let high schoolers from Poplar take control of the theatre once it becomes operation in late April of 2013.

Dakota and Smoker work on the lobby of the theatre.

The theatre is also being used for bow-n-arrow target practice right now.  The bison is the target.

Smoker takes a break as Dakota takes down sections of the old ceiling.
Dakota points out the work that needs to be done in the next month before the theatre is planned to open.

Outside Wolf Point at sunset.  This is one frame out of 900 that will make a timelapse soon enough.  I cropped out most of the vignette that came from using a 20mm with a full frame body.
