John Sinkevitch's last stand

John Sinkevitch's life is a good example for aspiring church musicians. The 80-year-old is the former music director at the Everett First Baptist Church and former director of director of the Everett Gospel Mission Men's Chorus. He says his participation in the free Christmas concert for seniors at the Everett First Baptist will be his last big combined concert.

During performance, he is an excellent pianist, organist, and director, leading the choir and congregation in hymn and prayer. When its not his turn in the limelight, he waits just off stage enjoying the beautiful music his friends create, sometimes humming along. His knobby fingers check the schedule between songs to make sure he doesn't forget to return to the stage for the last time.

Pétanque

Michelle Martin started the Edmonds Pétanque Club two years ago when she asked city council to build a pitch for the sport. She didn't expect them to agree, but when they did, curious folks showed up to learn the game. It's a lot like bocce ball, she says. Pétanque requires smaller, metal balls, and a smaller target ball (called a cochonnet, which means piglet in French). Martin prefers pétanque for no reason other than she and the game both hail from France. On warm Saturdays, Martin says twenty or more people will show up to play from morning to night.

Silvertips vs. Saskatoon

The Silvertips beat the Saskatoon Blades 5-1, just barely missing a shutout.
